Hello! Welcome to the IT Girls Blog. We are three University of Northern Iowa students who have come together to discuss current IT topics. Technology is ever-evolving. Today, businesses are operating in ways that were inconceivable decades ago. IT/IS is at a point where it must be integrated into a business' strategic equation for success. In order to keep up with the latest technological advances, we have decided to do research on various technologies that are being used in businesses today and to share that information with you. Every other week we will be posting about topics that interest us and hopefully you too. Please be sure to check in and stay tuned to see what we’ll talk about next.
A little about the three of us…
Lisa is a Senior majoring in Management Information Systems and Accounting. After graduating from UNI in May, she is hoping to find a career near her hometown. She finds it intriguing how technology has been used by businesses to make processes more efficient. At UNI, she is involved in Accounting Club and MISA and holds an officer position in Deaf Cultural Experience Club (DCE) and Paw Pics Photography Club (PPPC).
With DCE and PPPC, Lisa is able to learn more about a different culture and pursue hobbies outside of her majors. Over the summer, she learned a little American Sign Language in order to communicate a little with the Cedar Falls Deaf community at events put on by DCE.
Dalena is a Senior double majoring in Accounting and Management Information Systems. She will be starting full time at a Big Four firm after graduation and will be pursuing her CPA certification. At UNI, she has been the Events Coordinator for the Korean Language & Culture Club, is involved in the Accounting Club, and manages
digital marketing for a few local businesses. Dalena has interned in both fields of her major during her undergraduate years. From those internships, she has found how artificial intelligence and business analytics are vital technological assets for businesses that want to operate with efficiency and to offset competitors in the market. While she enjoys numbers, the IT aspect allows Dalena to exercise her visual creativity in which she hopes to provide value not just for herself but for her clients as well.
Kate is a Senior majoring in Management Information Systems with a minor in Finance. She may be a small town girl but aspires of moving to a big city after graduation to pursue a career in the IT field. When she is not in class or at work she enjoys being involved in residence life at the University of Northern Iowa. Currently she serves on an Advisory Board with the Director of Residence Life, is a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), a representative for the Resident Assistant Selection
Committee, and currently is in the running for the Lower Cabinet Director of Residence Life position with NISG (or Northern Iowa Student Government). She has a passion to serve others and to be a voice of change. Through these positions, Kate has demonstrated her ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and cannot wait to continue to develop her skill set in the working world.
Stop back in the next couple weeks to hear from us as we continue to discuss and or evaluate current IT topics. See you soon!
